Current Stock of Yamaha U1s
At the piano shop bath we are very lucky have a constant flow of Yamaha pianos coming in and out of the showroom. We have played hundreds of these pianos and they are certainly deserving of their reputation. The Yamaha U1 is an enduringly successful piano, often used as a benchmark against which other models are measured and always popular with experienced pianists and beginners alike. Over the years we have sold literally hundreds of Yamaha U1s, so we know a thing or two about these famous upright pianos. We currently have four Yamaha U1s in our Yamaha room, including a 1985 model and a more recent 1998 model. Thirteen years separates these pianos so we thought it would be interesting to see how they compare.
1984 Yamaha U1
This Yamaha U1 has a medium tone, sitting comfortably between mellow and bright and a nice even responsive action. In our throwaway society it is refreshing to find something that was built to last and this Yamaha U1 really does have impressive build quality. Over time the piano has developed a lovely warm mellow tone but unlike older pianos of a lesser build quality all of the function still remains and this is as good a piano as it was 30 years ago. Why not come along and see for yourself, this is a great opportunity to purchase an as new Yamaha upright.
1998 Yamaha U1
This is a lovely upright piano with a warm inviting tone and responsive, clean action. It is in immaculate condition and has clearly been very well looked after during its life. For a pre owned Yamaha 1998 is really quite recent and this is reflected in the quality of the tone on offer here. The bass still sounds really full and resonant, while the treble is clear and light. Out of the two pianos this would be my first choice but every pre owned Yamaha is different and all our customers have their own idea of what is a perfect piano. That is why we always recommend visiting our showroom before purchasing a piano, it really is worth trying a piano yourself before you buy.
