Traditional Upright Pianos

At the Piano Shop in Bath we have 2 showrooms dedicated to pre owned traditional upright pianos. In these showrooms there are some instantly recognisable brands like Yamaha and Kawai but you also benefit from the chance to explore the tone and touch of some lesser known makes like Gerh. Steinberg. All of our pre owned uprights are suitable for beginners and more advanced pianists and at the moment we are fortunate to have in stock a number of great quality uprights at an attractive price point.

Review of pre owned Kawai CX5 1998 Upright Piano

Here is an extremely solid upright piano from a world leading manufacturer. Sometimes it can be hard to specify exactly where some pianos have been manufactured but the Kawai CX5 model was Japanese made. The Japanese reputation for building high quality pianos is born out in the condition of this pre owned upright Kawai. Suprisingly for a kawai the tone of this piano is quite bright, so for someone looking for a brighter upright, this could well be worth trying. Another pleasing thing about this upright piano is that it has an amazingly full sound for its size, this upright really packs a punch. The action is medium and responsive, but that is what one would expect from a Japanese built Kawai. This is a very good value upright piano and the chance to own a Japanese manufactured upright is well worth looking into.

Suitable for: Beginners and advanced players alike. Those looking for a smaller piano that doesn’t compromise on sound.

Review of Gerh Steinberg Upright Piano

One thing I really love about working in the Piano Shop Bath is that you never quite know what piano will be coming though the door next! Here is a lovely little upright piano that is really charming, both to look at and to play. At only 104cm tall and 53cm deep it is incredibly compact but it still has traditional styling so it is quite individual. Made by Gerh.Steinberg who have been manufacturing pianos since 1908, it is in immaculate condition and has a gorgeous mellow, calming tone and medium action.

Suitable for: Beginners and more advanced players. People who want a traditional style upright for a smaller space and who don’t necessarily want or need lots of volume from their acoustic piano.

These two upright pianos could not really be more different, one is bold and bright, the other is mellow and quite unique, but each will be the perfect piano for someone out there. They illustrate why choosing a piano is such a personal thing and why we always advise our customers to come and try out several pianos before deciding on their personal favourite. The Piano Shop Bath is open seven days a week so why not come play?
