Review: Kawai K2 upright

Overview

The K2 is one of the new series of Kawai upright pianos to be fitted with their improved ‘Millennium III’ action. This action was first seen on their top-of-the-line concert grand instruments and has now been redesigned for the K Series uprights. The action employs some ‘ABS-Carbon’ components, designed to be stiff but light, as well as handcrafted wooden parts, making the piano’s touch very fast and responsive. At the price point of an entry-level quality instrument, this piano has the refined, responsive touch usually associated with much higher priced pianos.

Tone and Touch

The tone is typically Kawai – clear and pure, but with a warmth usually associated with high quality British and German instruments. Standing only 45” high, the K2 is small for a traditional upright, but the full tone, especially in the bass, suggests a much larger, more powerful instrument. This piano is fitted with the Soft Fall System, protecting the piano (and one’s fingers) from the lid slamming shut, and also with a full length music rack, an often overlooked but very useful feature. We like the classic styling of the traditional case, which is available in a full range of finishes (black shown below) to suit modern or more traditionally furnished rooms.

We usually have a K2 in stock, so why not come down to our showroom and try one out?
