Pianist and composer, Emma Jackson, knows firsthand how powerful a piano can be. Having faced her own mental health challenges, she truly understands the healing potential of both playing and listening to piano music.
An accomplished flautist and piano player, Emma drew from her skills as a musician, and from her knowledge of mindfulness meditation, to develop her own unique style. Her gentle, flowing compositions ― influenced by the likes of Schubert, M83 and Olafur Arnalds ― are now added frequently to the BBC Sounds Mindful Mix playlist.
Watch Emma play her enchanting piece, Ghost Orchid, which was track number one of the playlist in January. You can also find her music on all major streaming platforms.
Emma performs online Piano Mindfulness concerts, too. She says:
I set up Piano Mindfulness during lockdown, writing music to help calm and focus the mind. I released my first album in July last year and before the end of October, I had over 50,000 listens, was added to over 100 playlists on Spotify alone, and featured three times on BBC Sounds.
My second Piano Mindfulness album will be released on 25 June, along with a tailor-made candle to enhance the relaxing atmosphere around my music, and help listeners to completely soothe their minds.
Now that restrictions are easing, you can catch Emma playing in person. Head down to Twoodle Co in Shoreditch for the in-store launch of her album.
The sky’s the limit for this talented young artist. Emma recently accepted a job offer in San Francisco and will soon become an intern at Earwax Productions. Good luck Emma! We wish you all the best.
