The Steinway Model A
Steinway Pianos originated in Manhattan, NYC by German immigrant Heinrich Engelhard Steinweg in 1853. Steinways are well known throughout the world for their superior quality. One of Steinway’s most notable pianos is the Model A grand which first went into production in 1878. This piano is considered by many to be the greatest piano ever designed and produced by Steinway. Model A pianos are always sought after instruments by both the professional pianists and collectors.

Steinway Piano Design
The round tail was the first Steinway Model A piano to go into production but after the first Model A, a square tail was designed to allow a greater area for the soundboard and theoretically a better tone. The Model A has been redesigned over the years with each model offering improvements on the prior version.
A Good Choice
The Steinway Model A is the smallest grand piano in the concert series and is fantastic for pianists looking for a small grand but with a concert quality sound. The Model A is possibly the best Steinway to choose with this criteria, as the piano’s soundboard is over six foot in length. This allows for a full tonal range doesn’t take up as much room as a full length Model D’s soundboard, coming in at over eight foot. Many of the world great pianists choose to perform on a Model A, as they are small but yet sound excellent.
Here at The Piano Shop Bath we have a restored Steinway Model A where we welcome people to come in and play.
