Review of Yamaha piano U1 & U3 models
The U1 Yamaha piano is the entry level instrument in Yamaha’s U Series of professional-quality pianos. This Yamaha upright piano features the same high quality components and high standard of construction as the Yamaha U3 upright piano just with more compact dimensions. The Yamaha U1 piano also has a less powerful tone than the U3, so is ideally suited to smaller rooms where a U3 upright piano might overpower, both physically and in terms of volume. Though the Yamaha U1 upright piano is a smaller instrument, the quality of the tone is still full and precise, and the keyboard action light and responsive.

We recommend U-Series Yamaha pianos to pianists of all abilities; the light, refined action makes these instruments suitable for the youngest beginners while the quality of touch and tone and sturdiness of build means a piano for life, for the most discerning pianist. The Yamaha U1, like all Yamaha pianos, has a useful practice pedal, enabling evening practice without disturbing others.
Yamaha U1 Upright piano
A pre-owned or refurbished Yamaha U1 piano is in the same price range as many new Korean or Chinese instruments, and is the perfect choice for the player (or parent) looking for a high quality ‘Piano for Life’ at an affordable price. We usually keep at least one or two Yamaha U1s in stock within our piano showroom in Bath; this 1982 instrument is in very fine condition and has been thoroughly serviced by our technicians. The tone is full and clear, with plenty of power right across the register, and the touch light and responsive, typical of Yamaha pianos.
