Here at The Piano Shop Bath we are proud to have installed within our showroom painting works created by the young and superbly talented Betsy Bradley. From uprights and grands to painted pianos the combination of our pianos with Betsy’s paintings forms a unique and harmonious effect offering a visual as well as an aural experience with music.
Betsy explains ‘With dynamic, lyrical mark making at the core of my painting practice, being given the opportunity to install my work in The Piano Shop Bath was a unique chance to form a conversation between instruments and the painting’s musical qualities. The space was both ideal and posed some interesting challenges, with some paintings seeming to belong in a particular place, while others required more careful curation to achieve the right balance of energy and colour.’
‘The works are hung as to create an on-going rhythm throughout the showroom; bold dark gestures punctuate the space, while bright playful colours evoke fluid and bouncing melodies. The paintings are to be experienced as live surfaces, upon which the paint glides in suspended motion. The gestural energy emulates the dynamic and fluctuating rhythm of piano music, lifting the space and giving a visual experience of sound.
